Senior tech journalist Debashish Sarkar has returned to CNN-News18, taking on a new role as technology editor. He will assume this role effective July 2026.
Debashish Sarkar previously served as Editor – Technology at CNN-News18 from November 2021 to March 2024. During this time, he led News18 Tech and the 1UP Gaming YouTube channel. In March 2024, he also assumed the role of Editor – Technology + Heading 1UP Gaming.
He then served as Tech Editor at HT Digital Streams from March 2024 to March 2026, leading the technology sections of HindustanTimes.com and LiveMint.com. During this time, he handled editorial strategy for HT Tech and HindustanTimes.com/Technology, daily content, gadgets and appliances coverage on LiveMint.com, technology video production, Instagram and YouTube content management, and affiliate content strategy.
He has also been associated with Verve Research as an Editorial Consultant since April 2026. Here, he is copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking academic and policy chapters on topics such as global cooperation, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, climate justice, critical minerals, global value chains, strategic autonomy, and youth participation from a Southeast Asian perspective.
Debasish Sarkar's media career spans over a decade. From May 2018 to November 2021, he served as Principal Digital Content Producer at The Times of India. During this time, he covered topics related to technology, enterprise IT, and startups for Gadgets Now, TimesofIndia.com, and The Economic Times (print and online).
Previously, from September 2016 to April 2018, he served as a senior copy editor at News18, where he reported on topics related to IT, personal technology, and business. He also served as host of 'The Tech and Auto Show.'
He was a senior sub-editor at TOI Tech/Gadgets Now from February 2016 to August 2016. He also served as a senior sub-editor at the Indian Express from August 2014 to February 2016, covering personal and enterprise technology.
He began his career at EFY and later joined 9.9 Media, where he covered enterprise technology, cybersecurity, and the IT sector.
Debashish Sarkar earned a first-class bachelor's degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies from Guru Jambheshwar University. During his university years, he founded the college newspaper, "The Nation Express."
