Wing, the autonomous drone delivery business under Alphabet, has appointed Minjae Ormes as its head of marketing.
Ormes will lead the marketing team from San Francisco. She joins at a point when Wing is trying to move drone delivery out of the realm of novelty and into routine use, building on partnerships with retailers and delivery platforms such as Walmart, Lowe's, and DoorDash, and brands such as PepsiCo.
Ormes most recently served as vice president of global brand and consumer marketing at LinkedIn, a role she held from 2021. There, she led the brand's push to be seen as a daily destination for learning, networking and career growth rather than only a place to search for jobs. Her team also handled consumer product marketing and market research, and worked on bringing LinkedIn's Premium subscription business and its AI features to market.
Before LinkedIn, she spent about three years as the founding chief marketing officer of Visible, the Verizon-owned, all-digital wireless brand. She built the marketing organisation from the ground up across brand, creative, communications, growth, e-commerce, insights and device marketing, and shaped its challenger positioning and go-to-market strategy. Under her watch, Visible was named among Fast Company's most innovative companies and ran its first national TV campaign, featuring Kevin Bacon and Dan Levy.
Her earlier years were spent at YouTube, where she worked for nearly seven years through to 2018 and rose to global head of partner marketing and media. She led the launch of YouTube's first global creator campaign, and worked on the platform's Movies and Originals offerings and the early stages of its subscription business, including YouTube TV. She also oversaw marketing for its apps ecosystem spanning Music, Gaming, and Kids.
Ormes began her career at one of the first social-focused agencies, and later worked as an independent marketing consultant for clients including National Geographic Channel, The Walt Disney Studios and Tribeca Film Institute. She holds a master's degree in cinema studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and has been named among Forbes' most influential CMOs.
