With 443 GRPs, Star Plus reclaims its glory
Though the numbers are for just one week, it has brought great cheer to the Star Plus camp. The channel led the Hindi GEC charts on week 25 with 443 GRPs (TAM, HSM, CS 4+). A part of it can be attributed to the Star Parivaar Awards, which was in its tenth year. New show ‘Tere Liye’ also managed to find its way to the top ten programmes of the week.
Though the numbers are for just one week, it has brought great cheer to the Star Plus camp. The channel led the Hindi GEC charts on week 25 with 443 GRPs (TAM, HSM, CS 4+).
The last time the channel had reached such high GRPs was in 2007 for the final episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC). This means that in the last 168 weeks (roughly three and a half years) none of the GECs had managed to garner such high numbers.
One reason for these numbers is the channel’s flagship awards ceremony – ‘Star Parivaar Awards’, which got 7.18 TVR. In the past years as well, the award ceremony has been getting substantial numbers – 5.66 TVR (2009), 4.69 TVR (2008), 8.38 TVR (2007) and 8.9 TVR (2006). It may, however, be noted that the TAM universe has changed over the past few years.
Also, besides the awards, four of Star Plus’ shows are among the top ten shows of the week. ‘Bidaai’ got 5.8 TVR, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ got 5.7 TVR, ‘Pratigya’ got 5.5 TVR, and the newly launched ‘Tere Liye’ got 4.0 TVR.
Anupam Vasudev, EVP, Star India, said that they had expected the new show to get ratings of at least 3 TVR, but it had performed better than that. He attributed the show’s success to the marketing campaign, wherein they had promoted the show based on its music, which resonated well with the audience.
Going forward, Star Plus intends to focus on strengthening certain time bands. For example, the channel is going to launch a show called ‘Chaand Chupa Baadal Mein’ on June 28 in the 8 pm slot.
