Telugu news anchor Swetcha Votarkar was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad’s Chikkadpally locality on Friday, June 28. Initial police reports indicate that the 40-year-old anchor died by suicide, with preliminary information pointing to self-immolation as the cause. Swetcha was reportedly alone at home when the incident occurred. She lived with her mother and school-aged daughter. According to early reports, her daughter returned from school and found Swetcha unresponsive, following which neighbours and authorities were alerted. She was declared dead and her body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem.

Her father, Poornachandar Rao, has alleged that Swetcha was under intense mental stress and held a well-known director responsible for it. The identity of the individual has not been disclosed, and no formal charges have been reported as of now.
