TRAI extends deadline for receiving comments on QoS to January 10

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on December 31, 2008, decided to extend the deadline from stakeholders to send in their comments on the quality of service (QoS) issues for cable TV in non-CAS areas and for DTH services. TRAI had earlier issued a consultation paper on December 1, 2008, wherein it had asked the stakeholders to send in their replies by December 31, 2008. However, some of them being unable to send in their comments on the given time, TRAI decided to extend the deadline to January 10, 2009.

The consultation paper touched upon the procedures, timelines for connections or disconnections or transfer of cable TV services. The procedure for billing as well as billing related complaints, overall complaint of the addressal system, in areas where cable service providers are providing digital transmission, timeline and the procedure for services relating to provision of digital decoders and set-top boxes in non-CAS areas.

While the cable industry believes issuing of consultation paper for non-CAS areas is the need of the hour and good for the industry, the DTH industry, on the other hand, remained silent on the issue.
