Prasar Bharati invites channels to submit applications for vacant MPEG-2 slots

Prasar Bharati has announced a fresh invitation for applications from satellite TV channels to fill up vacant MPEG-2 slots of DD Free Dish DTH Platform for the period from 01.04.2020 to 31.03.2021.
The 44th e-auction allotment of MPEG-2 slots of DD Free Dish was concluded last month where 53 out of the 54 available slots were sold to the highest bidder.
According to sources while there is just one slot from the last e-auction that remained vacant the public broadcaster may auction up to 3 slots this time.
The slots will be allotted as per procedure explained in Clause (r) of Annexure-2 of the policy guidelines for allotment of DD Free Dish slots, notified on 15.01.2019 and as amended vide amendment notified on 01.11.2019 and 01.11.2019 E-auction, if required, will be held on 31.03.2020 said the notice from Prasar Bharati.
Rules remain the same for this application too wherein only channels licensed by the Ministry of I&B would be allowed to participate in the allocation/e-auction process. Only companies holding valid permission from Ministry of I&B or their authorized distributor partners can apply for the allocation of DD Free Dish slot. International Public Broadcasters licensed/registered by the Ministry of I&B can also participate in the e-auction.
Categories are also the same as the recently concluded auction that includes 5 different buckets ranging from general entertainment to news and devotional categories.
DD Free Dish currently offers 88 TV channels in MPEG2 slots where 34 channels are from Doordarshan. The auction was for the remaining 54 slots. Bid winners will be allotted MPEG-2 slots of DD Free Dish DTH Platform for an annual term for the period - 01.04.2020 to 31.03.2021.
