Network18 has taken full control of its Marathi news channel, News18 Lokmat, after its board approved the acquisition of the remaining 50% stake in IBN Lokmat News Pvt. Ltd. (IBNL) for Rs 25 crore.

With this transaction, News18 Lokmat becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of the media group.

According to the company, the move reflects Network18’s commitment to expanding its footprint in India’s regional news market.

Network18 stated that the acquisition will help deliver a more seamless experience for Marathi audiences across both television and digital platforms.

“Driven by strategic editorial and distribution initiatives, News18 Lokmat has built an undisputed leadership position in the Marathi news segment. Network18 will leverage this position to further consolidate its regional leadership,” the company said in a statement.

In a separate filing, Network18 informed that its board, in a meeting held on Wednesday, approved the acquisition of equity shares, preference shares, and debentures of IBN Lokmat News Private Limited (IBN) held by its joint venture partner, Lokmat Media Pvt Ltd, for an aggregate consideration of Rs 25 crore.

“Post this acquisition, IBN shall become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. Financial effect of the above will be given upon completion of the acquisition," it said.
