Filmmaker Prakash Jha makes television foray in Bihar

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, maker of intense political celluloid dramas like ‘Gangaajal’ and ‘Apaharan’, has launched a TV channel, christened Maurya TV, in Bihar to give the state a voice of its own. The infotainment channel would be devoted and restricted to Bihar.

Speaking to mediapersons, Jha insisted that the channel had not been launched to counter the rosy-picture Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government was trying to paint.

He added, “We aren’t looking for footprints outside Bihar. The focus would be on happenings in Bihar. It will be an independent unbiased channel. The content should be put together in Bihar and voice the concerns of the state.”

Sujit Jha, former Bureau Chief with Aaj Tak, has been roped in to look after the new channel. Well-known film producer and founder of Adlabs, Manmohan Shetty, will be an investor in Jha’s project.

The clearance for Maurya TV was secured from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting a year ago.
