The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked distribution platform operators (DPOs) to allow consumers to add and drop channels through SMS.

An annexure issued by TRAI says to drop a channel a subscriber can send an SMS to an operator defined “10 digits mobile number” or “Short Code” using the Registered Mobile Number.

A consumer can use the VC No. if the subscriber doesn’t have an RMN.

The Add/Drop request of the subscriber shall be executed within 72 hours from the receipt of request.

The annexure also mentions that DPOs may devise their own acknowledgement messages but the information conveyed to the subscribers should be in line with the response messages provided.

TRAI has also asked DPOs to display information on Channel No. 199 about MRP of channels and bouquets, media reports said.
