Despite NBA resistance, BARC goes ahead with Republic ratings

Despite resistance by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA), Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has gone ahead and released Republic TV ratings today. Earlier, NBA President Ashish Bagga had written to BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta requesting him to withhold the ratings of the new channel. Accusing Arnab Goswami’s network of running on multiple feeds, NBA had urged BARC to refrain from aiding and abetting the malpractice.

While observers closely watch how Goswami’s channel opens on ratings, last week, Times Now stood atop the ratings chart with 645 impressions (000s). It was followed by India Today and NDTV with 368 and 290 impressions (000s), respectively.

Impressions are the total number of people tuned into a programme or channel on average in a minute. Post Goswami’s exit, Times Now has retained its leadership position among the English news channels. However, on one occasion, it was trumped by CNBC TV18, another English channel into business news broadcasting.
