BEA representatives meet Arun Jaitley over show cause notice

Broadcasters Editors Association met Information and Broadcasting Minister, Arun Jaitley on Tuesday to discuss the show cause notice that the government had sent to three news channels.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued said notice to leading news channels NDTV, NDTV 24x7, Aaj Tak and ABP for the coverage of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon’s hanging. The ministry has sought an explanation from the channels in fifteen days why action shouldn’t be taken against them.

According to media reports it was felt that some portions of the coverage of these news channels were inappropriate. As per the sections of the program code, no program code should be carried which is likely to encourage or incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promote anti-national attitudes.
