More than 47 million watched Jaitley presenting India’s annual financial statement with average time spent 19.7 minutes according to Zapr

Last Thursday all eyes were glued to the television as Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Budget for the fourth time, with more emphasis on agriculture and healthcare. Bangalore-based media tech start up Zapr mapped the viewership of the budget between 11 am and 1 pm, breaking it down by half-hourly reach, average time-spent, and geographic distribution.

More than 47 million watched Jaitley presenting India’s annual financial statement with average time spent being 19.7 minutes. It garnered maximum reach of 22.6 million between 11 and 11.30 am followed by 21.9 million between 11.30am and 12pm. From here the metric started dipping to 20.6 million between 12pm and 12.30pm and then 20.3 million between 12.30pm and 1pm.

Going by viewership by minutes, Maharashtra brought in the maximum viewership with 14.8 per cent, followed by UP, Delhi , Gujarat and Tamil Nadu with 8.6 per cent, 8.5 per cent, 8.4 per cent and 8 per cent share respectively.

Given the farmer-oriented schemes announced for this budget, Zapr observed that rural population claimed the highest viewership of 38.7 per cent followed by cities with 1 lakh population (30.2 per cent). Meanwhile metros took 17 per cent share of the viewership.
