Times Internet partners with AIR for live IPL commentary
Cricket fans can now listen to live commentary of the last three matches of IPL Season 5 on All India Radio’s National Channel and FM Gold Network
Times Internet Ltd (TIL) and All India Radio (AIR) have joined hands to broadcast live commentary of Indian Premium League (IPL) 2012 over AIR’s National Channel and FM Gold Network.
The running commentary of the final matches of IPL 2012 – including the first qualifier match at Bangalore on May 23, 2012, second qualifier match and final match at Chennai on May 25 and May 27, respectively – will be broadcast alternately in Hindi and English on the National Channel and FM Gold Network.
The coverage area of the National Channel includes Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Orissa, Pondicherry, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and parts of Assam, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
Speaking on the deal, Rishi Khiani, CEO, Times Internet, said ,“By partnering with All India Radio, IPL 2012 will be able to reach out to a much larger base of cricket fans, who are spread all over the country, especially beyond the metros.”
LD Mandloi, Director General, All India Radio, added here, “AIR has had a very long innings in promoting sports, including cricket, in the country. We are still going strong in that direction. We are now about to carry live commentary of the last three important and crucial matches, including the final match, of IPL 2012. We hope that this would provide a new experience to our listeners.”
BCCI-IPL has facilitated access to AIR at the stadium venues. The radio commentary is being produced live from the ground and transmitted from the local AIR transmitter.
When asked whether there were plans to extend this partnership with AIR, Khiani told exchange4media that at present the partnership was for this year, “chances are we will take it till 2014”.
He further said that AIR would be sharing revenues with TIL, but refused to divulge details on the total amount.
It may be recalled that a consortium of Times Internet Ltd and Nimbus Communication Ltd acquired the IPL global Internet, mobile and audio rights, along with television rights in specific territories outside India for four years. The consortium bagged the rights at the bidding venue at Chennai after submitting a winning bid of Rs 261.6 crore.For more updates, be socially connected with us on
