RAM Rambling: Big FM maintains Bangalore lead; Fever FM grows in the year

The year 2009 had begun with set trends for the top seeds in the Bangalore market, according to RAM data from TAM Media Research for the target, all people 12 plus, all dayparts, all place of listening.

Big FM was the clear leader, and Radio Mirchi followed. Both the stations continued their respective leads with comfortable margins for the first 16 weeks. The competitive equation of the market has not altered much in subsequent weeks. Even though the year has seen drops in the graphs of Big FM and Radio Mirchi, the former still reigns in Bangalore, and the latter is still the number two player. (See Graph Below)

Interestingly, Fever FM has seen growth in this market in the year. In week 18, it even took on Big FM. Fever FM lost the share that it had in that week, and after two weeks of staying ahead of Radio Mirchi, it settled on the number three spot in week 21 and week 22, but this is an elevation for the channel, as it had started the year on the seventh position.

AIR – Rainbow has seen a positive graph but it began the year as the number fourth player, and after occupying the number three position for many weeks, it is back at being the number fourth player in the recent RAM weeks.

In the last few weeks, Radio City and Radio One have competed closely for the fifth and the sixth spot; Radio City beating Radio One in week 21 and 22. SFM has steadily stayed on the seventh spot since week 13.

The following tier comprises AIR – Vividh Bharati and Radio Indigo, where Vividh Bharati has managed to stay ahead of Radio Indigo.

Bangalore market also has Gyan Vani and Akashavani, but these stations barely have any shares to show at present.
