Radio One scours for radio champs in Bangalore’s colleges

‘Radio One College Champions’ recently kickstarted from Jyothi Nivas College in Bangalore. It is the biggest hunt for best radio talent in colleges, which is currently on for radio professionals in 10 of the city’s best colleges.

“Here is your quickest shot at fame,” said Shyju Varkey, National Head of Marketing, Radio One. “The catch-all show, ‘Radio One College Champions’, will give promising college kids a chance at hosting their own radio show for a whole week on 94.3 Radio One and what’s more, the winners will walk away with the crown of ‘Best College Presenters on Radio’,” he added.

Varkey further said, “This is the fifth edition of the immensely popular Radio One College Champions hunt. The response we received last year was tremendous with more than 500 registrations from 10 colleges across the city. The excitement of last year’s championship still remains, with students flooding our 94.3 Radio One office with requests for the next edition of College Champions. We are seeing a greater number of students lining up for the auditions now.”

94.3 Radio One - Maximum Music, Maximum Choice, launched its annual hunt for the new Kings and Queens of Radio at Jyothi Nivas College. 94.3 Radio One kickstarted their auditions for the fifth edition of the city’s biggest radio talent hunt road show, ‘Radio One College Champions' on September 20th.

The winning team consisted of Zeishah Amlani and Aakanksha (II PUC) from Jyothi Nivas College. The judges for the auditions were MJ Rakesh and Ambika from 94.3 Radio One.

Beginning at the Jyoti Nivas College on September 20, and moving onto Dayananda Sagar College on September 22, the show will roll onto Amity Global Business School on September 23, Christ University on September 24, Jain University-CMS on September 26, Baldwin College on September 27, Ramaiah Institute of Management studies on September 28, PES College on September 29, Sindhi College on September 30 of September and Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College on October 1 slated to join 94.3 Radio One in its search for the champion Radio jockeys, on successive days.

94.3 Radio one designed the live on-air annual show to bring out the best radio talents and the best college presenters on radio (a team of two) through an intercollegiate competition. The selected colleges in each city across the country will be identified as audition centres. The registered students from various colleges will then be auditioned at the venue. A panel of celebrity judges, after touring the colleges for auditions, will finally select ten colleges, with a team comprising of two, from each campus across each city. The selected ten teams will then proceed to the next level of the competition, which would be conducted on-air from the studios of 94.3 Radio One in each city.

The process of choosing the winner involves assessing the ‘radio worthiness’ – music knowledge, humour, ability to handle pressure and think on their feet, and finally, how well team-mates partner with each other- which is done by the Radio One team along with the celebrity judge present.

The ‘Radio One College Champions' will win cash awards and other exciting prizes. The winners will also get an exclusive week on-air with 94.3 Radio One to host their own show.
