Senior level editorial appointments at India Today
India Today has appointed Rajesh Jha and Kai Friese as Managing Editors while Bandeep Singh has joined the group as Group Photo Editor and Nilanjan Das will be the new Group Creative Editor
India Today has appointed Rajesh Jha and Kai Friese as Managing Editors while Bandeep Singh has joined the group as Group Photo Editor and Nilanjan Das will be the new Group Creative Editor.
Jha brings 25 years of rich experience in both digital and print journalism. His previous assignment was Executive Editor, Catch News. In this capacity, he was leading the digital news magazine of the Rajasthan Patrika group.
Jha is well known for his editorial achievements with Open Magazine, Ananda Bazar Patrika Group, Indian Express, Outlook Money, Business Standard and Amrita Bazar Patrika. He has also served as consultant to The World Bank on water and sanitation. He was the Consulting Director at Indicus Analytics, an economic research and data products company.
Friese is a Bachelor in Politics from the University of Sussex, and a Diploma holder in German from the Karl Duisberg Institute, Cologne, he also holds a Masters’ degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
He began his career in journalism with India Today in 1993 and served as Editor for several Outlook Group magazines, The India Magazine, and Man's World. He has written features, essays and op-eds for leading publications in India and elsewhere, including the New York Times, GEO (France), N+1, Tank magazine, Scroll.in, GQ (India), National Geographic Traveller (India) and GEO Saison (Germany). He has also served as a freelance researcher and German-English translator.
Like Friese, Singh is also rejoining the group. He joins back from the ABP Group where he was working as Photo Editor for Fortune India Magazine. His work has been published in Time, New York Times, Business Week, and Forbes. He has been on the photography jury of the India Habitat Center since 2005. Singh is also the recipient of the Charles Wallace Trust Award in Photography and his works are part of the permanent collection of the Essl Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna along with several other private and public collections in India and abroad.
Das believes he provides an “adrenaline-driven environment” and “dynamic and contemporary edge” to any project he is involved in.
True to this description, he has served as an accomplished Creative Director at Fortune Magazine, Time Magazine and Open Magazine. And it all began with his 11 year stint as Art Director at India Today in 1996.
