IRS 2010 Q1: Top 10 Hindi dailies see growth in readership; magazines fare better too
Compared to the top 10 English dailies, the top 10 Hindi dailies have registered growth as per IRS 2010 Q1 data, with not a single daily witnessing de-growth when compared to IRS 2009 R2. This may bring some respite to the print industry. The top 10 Hindi magazines, too, have received good growth, though three of the Hindi magazines among the top ten have witnessed a decline in AIR.
Compared to the top 10 English dailies, the top 10 Hindi dailies have registered growth as per IRS 2010 Q1 data, with not a single daily witnessing de-growth when compared to IRS 2009 R2. This may bring some respite to the print industry. Dainik Jagran continues to be the most widely read Hindi daily in India with an AIR (Average Issue Readership) of 16,313,000 as against 16,096,000 in IRS 2009 R2, an increase of 1.35 per cent.
Hindustan however emerged as the second fastest growing Hindi daily with a growth of 6.19 per cent in its readership. Ranked third, Hindustan received an AIR of 9914000 in Q1 2010 as against 9336000 in R2 2009.
While Nai Dunia which ranks ten among the top ten Hindi daily has emerged as the fastest growing Hindi daily with a growth of 6.99 per cent from 1187000 in R2 2009 to 1270000 in Q1 2010.
The second most read Hindi daily is Dainik Bhaskar, its AIR grew from 12880000 in R2 2009 to 13329000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 3.49 per cent.
Ranked four is Amar Ujala with an AIR of 8491000 in Q1 2010 as against 8299000, an increase of 2.31 per cent.
Rajasthan Patrika is ranked fifth which witnessed an increase in its AIR from 6486000 in R2 2009 to 6685000 in Q1 2010, which is an increase of 3.07 per cent.
Punjab Kesari is another Hindi daily which has witnessed growth in AIR from 3425000 in R2 2009 to 3526000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 2.95 per cent.
Navbharat Times too witnessed good growth in its AIR wherein it grew from 2366000 in R2 2009 to 2472000 in Q1 2010, an increase in 4.48 per cent.
Ranked eight is Nava Bharat (Mah/Chh) which grew from 1406000 in R2 2009 to 1437000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 2.20 per cent.
Hari Bhoomi on the other hand grew from 1277000 in R2 2009 to 1355000 in Q1 2010, a growth of 6.11 per cent.
Top 10 Hindi magazines:
While the top ten Hindi magazines have received good growth, three of the Hindi magazines among the top ten magazines have witnessed a decline in its AIR. India Today (Hindi), a weekly, Grih Shobha (Hin), a fortnightly magazine and Nirogdham are the only magazines in the top ten to have witnessed a decline in AIR.
Saras Salil, fortnightly magazine is the most widely read Hindi magazine in India, it grew from 2167000 in R2 2009 to 2209000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 1.94 per cent.
Cricket Samrat, a monthly Hindi magazine has emerged as the fastest growing Hindi magazine with a growth of 4.19 per cent i.e. from 1146000 in R2 2009 to 1194000 in Q1 2010. It ranks sixth among the top 10 Hindi magazines.
Ranked second among the top 10 magazine is Pratiyogita Darpan which grew from 1676000 in R2 2009 to 1742000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 3.94 per cent.
India Today (Hin) is the third most popular Hindi magazine however it declined to 1311000 in Q1 2010 from 1398000 in R2 2009, which is a decline of -6.22 per cent.
Meri Saheli, ranked four increased its AIR from 1231000 in R2 2009 to 1267000 in Q1 2010, an increase of 2.92 per cent.
Grih Shobha (Hin), a fortnightly magazine saw drop of -6.44 per cent taking its AIR to 1235000 in Q1 2010 from 1320000 in R2 2009.
Grehlakshmi saw an increase of 1.07 per cent taking its AIR to 1133000 in Q1 2010 from 1121000 in R2 2009.
Nirogdham has seen a marginal decline in its readership wherein its AIR touched 869000 in Q1 2010 from 877000 in R2 2009, a decline of -0.91 per cent.
Ranked nine is Champak (Hin) which received an AIR of 827000 in Q1 2010 from 799000 in R2 2009, an increase of 3.50 per cent.
Sarita also saw a marginal increase in its readership with an AIR of 745000 in Q1 2010 as against 738000 in R2 2009, an increase of 0.95 per cent.For more updates, be socially connected with us on
