HT: Anil Penna appointed as rewrite head, Ramesh Vinayak now Exec. Editor

Penna will report to Kunal Pradhan and be part of HT’s editorial leadership team headed by Sukumar Ranganathan

Hindustan Times has appointed Anil Penna as the rewrite head and promoted Ramesh Vinayak to the post of Executive Editor.

“He will build a rewrite desk worthy of our size and vintage, train reporters and editors, and also ensure important stories get the treatment they deserve. Penna retired from Mint in January after a brilliant stint there. He has been a reporter for top international wires (covering the fall of Kabul from Kabul and the Asian financial crisis from HK among others) and an editor,” said Sukumar Ranganathan, Editor-in-chief, Hindustan Times further adding that Penna is also, perhaps the biggest Salman Khan fan in the building (Hindustan Times office).

In another internal email Saumya Bhattacharya, Managing Editor, Hindustan Times made the announcement of Ramesh Vinayak’s promotion to Executive Editor.

“Since joining Hindustan Times in 2009 as Resident Editor, Chandigarh, Ramesh has led our robust coverage of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Under his tutelage, our Chandigarh edition has become sharper and stronger,” she said giving credits to Vinayak’s leadership for HT’s leading performance, as per IRS 2018, in Punjab and Haryana.

Recently, Prashant Jha was also promoted to Political Editor and Chief of Bureau to lead the coverage of politics and government.
