With employers working from home, Hindustan Times has put its weekend edition into its main publication. “HT is suspending the print edition of its weekend supplement, HT Weekend, for 2-3 weeks because the staff is working from home. Most stories will be available online,” tweeted HT journalist Abhishek Baxi today.

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, many media organisations have allotted work from home to their employees in order to safeguard them from the novel coronavirus spread.

However, on asking Rajan Bhalla, CMO, HT Media Group he said that they are planning a different format to present the same content. “We are not suspending the edition but will be putting the content inside the main edition of Hindustan Times.”

In a chat with e4m earlier, Bhalla highlighted that employee safety is of utmost priority for the organisation.

“The most important thing for us at the moment is taking care of our people. The workplace has been completely sanitized and there is a security check at every required point so that safety is maintained at the office at any given time,” said Bhalla.

“We are analysing the jobs of our entire workforce to understand which employees are required to be physically present at work and accordingly we are initiating a work from home model. Our commitment to editorial remains the same. In spite of the crisis we are not compromising on our editions and news quality especially at this time, when delivering the correct news and spreading awareness is of utmost importance,” Bhalla said.

The print media in India has never been put on hold in the past so far. Even as its western counterparts are looking at going completely digital, newspapers in India have been committed to delivering papers at the doorsteps every morning.
