7-Eleven has closed all its remaining outlets in India, with its Japanese parent company Seven & I Holdings confirming that Reliance, the brand’s master franchisee in the country, shut all 31 stores on September 30.
The outlets, located across Mumbai and Pune, marked the end of 7-Eleven’s India operations nearly five years after the convenience-store chain entered the market through a licensing agreement with Reliance Retail.
7-Eleven opened its first Indian store in Mumbai in October 2021 and subsequently expanded to around 60 outlets.
Despite the exit, Seven & I Holdings has said it continues to see potential in the Indian market and is exploring options to establish a presence there over the longer term.
“We confirm that our Master Franchisee, Reliance, which operates 7-Eleven stores in Mumbai and Pune, closed all 31 stores on September 30," a company statement said.
