Reddit has thrown its hat into the AI advertising ring, unveiling two new features designed to help brands harness the power of user conversations and real-time community sentiment. Announced on June 16, these tools signal Reddit’s ambition to become an essential player for marketers seeking to tap into the platform’s famously active and opinionated user base.
The first tool, Reddit Insights, is powered by what the company calls Community Intelligence. This feature gives marketers access to live trends and the ability to test campaign ideas by analyzing what’s being discussed across thousands of subreddits. Brands can spot emerging topics, refine their messaging, and plan campaigns that align with the pulse of Reddit’s communities. The goal is to let advertisers move at the speed of conversation, not just react to it after the fact.
Complementing this, the Conversation Summary Add-ons feature lets brands highlight positive user comments directly beneath their ads. By surfacing authentic feedback, Reddit aims to boost ad credibility and engagement, giving brands a way to showcase genuine community sentiment right where it matters most. This approach is designed to set Reddit apart from rivals by making the voice of its users a core part of the advertising experience.
Reddit’s move comes as economic uncertainty and shifting global trade policies have made marketers more cautious with their ad spend. Major holding companies like WPP Media have trimmed their global ad growth forecasts, and brands are demanding more flexible contracts and faster, data-driven insights. In this climate, AI-powered tools are becoming a must-have for platforms looking to attract advertisers. Reddit’s rivals, including Snap and Pinterest, are also doubling down on AI-driven ad targeting, but Reddit believes its unique discussion-based ecosystem gives it an edge.
The company’s investment in ad tech appears to be paying dividends. Reddit recently reported a 61% jump in first-quarter revenue, with daily active unique visitors climbing to over 108 million and its active advertiser base growing by more than 50% year-on-year. The platform has also been proactive in signing licensing deals with AI companies like Google and OpenAI, while simultaneously taking legal action against firms accused of scraping its data without permission.
Reddit’s leadership acknowledges that challenges remain, especially as changes to Google’s search algorithms threaten to disrupt traffic. But the company is betting that by making its ad products smarter and more responsive to the community, it can keep both users and brands engaged.
