A round-up of all the news that made headlines over the week

The week saw the announcements of quarterly financial results for the fiscal year. Facebook, Twitter, IPG Mediabrands, Google and others reported their second quarter financial results for the fiscal year. In India brands like JIO, Network 18, and others announced their Q1 financial results for the fiscal year.

Modi government spending over Rs 3800 crore on ads in three years was trending in the news. MIB informed Rajya Sabha that of the total amount spent, over 42% was on ads in English and regional language newspapers

Samsung India and IPL sponsor VIVO have called for media review and invited pitches from leading agencies for accounts worth over 400 crores.

Last week also saw some many appointments. HUL’s Inderpreet Singh joined Mondelez International as Associate Director Marketing- Gum, Candy Beverages (GCBM) India, and will report to President, GCBM, Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA). Keith Weed, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Unilever, has been appointed as President of the Advertising Association (AA). Former Marketing Director - Indian Snacks, Foods, PepsiCo India, Vani Gupta, , has joined Hypersonic Advisory as a founder member. She will lead the firm's consumer innovation practice.

Amy Powell, President of Paramount Television was fired from the company over allegations of making racially insensitive remarks.

The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) recognised ad veteran Ram Sehgal for his outstanding leadership and contribution to the advertising industry and immeasurable contribution to social causes. That same evening Ashish Bhasin, Chairman & CEO South Asia, Dentsu Aegis Network Media India Pvt Ltd was elected as President of AAAI.

In other news, Google India roped in creative agency Leo Burnett after a multi-agency pitch.
