A career spanning more than three decades, a portfolio of iconic brands and a professional journey that cuts across industries and geographies — Peshwa Acharya has built his reputation on understanding consumers, building businesses and driving transformation. As he celebrates his birthday today, September 21, we look back at the milestones that have shaped his career.

An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta, Acharya began his professional journey with Procter & Gamble, where he worked on the launch of Ariel in India. His subsequent association with Reckitt and Dabur strengthened his expertise in brand building, consumer insights, sales and distribution. Over the years, his work has been associated with household names such as Dettol, Mortein, Harpic, Babool, Promise, Meswak, Odonil and Odomos.

One of the defining chapters of his career came with Reliance, where he was part of the founding leadership team of Reliance Retail. He played a significant role in building Reliance Digital and contributed to the development of retail formats including Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart and Apple's iStore by Reliance Digital. His experience also extended to the telecom sector through his association with Reliance Communications.

Acharya's professional journey subsequently took him beyond India. As Group CMO of Globacom in Africa, he gained experience in building and repositioning a major telecom business in a competitive market.

His next significant chapter unfolded in hospitality, where he held leadership responsibilities at Sterling Holidays and Nature Trails. His work focused on repositioning Sterling from its traditional timeshare model towards experiential holidays, bringing together brand strategy, digital transformation and changing consumer preferences.

Beyond corporate leadership, Acharya has also established himself as an entrepreneur, consultant and mentor. Through Think As Consumer and GrowthShyft, he has worked with businesses and professionals on growth strategies, transformation and leadership development.

His entrepreneurial interests have also extended into healthcare through Leven Health Care, including initiatives focused on developing dialysis centres across western India.

Over the years, Acharya's advisory and consulting engagements have taken him across Asia, Africa, the GCC and the wider MENA region. His experience encompasses business transformation, digital strategy, omnichannel development and new-market entry.

He continues to be associated with strategic consulting, business advisory and mentoring, drawing upon his experience across consumer-facing industries.
