  • The retirement decision aligns with Tata Group Governance Guidelines and follows Tata's recent resignations from several other Tata Group boards.
  • Tata has been with Titan since August 2003, contributing over 23 years to the company's growth and board discussions.
  • He will continue his role as Chairman of Tata Trusts, the largest shareholder of Tata Sons, while the Companies Act, 2013, restricts certain directorships for individuals over 70.

Noel N Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, will retire from his position as Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director and Vice-Chairman of Titan Company Ltd with effect from November 12, 2026.

The company announced the development in a regulatory filing, stating that the decision was in accordance with the Tata Group Governance Guidelines.

Tata, who is currently 69, will turn 70 on November 12, the same day his retirement from Titan’s board takes effect.

In its filing, Titan said, “We wish to inform you that, in accordance with the Tata Group Governance Guidelines, Noel N. Tata will retire from the office of Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director and Vice Chairman of the Company, with effect from 12th November 2026.”

Tata has been associated with Titan since August 2003, completing over 23 years with the company. Titan has credited his experience and understanding of consumer and retail businesses with contributing to the company’s board deliberations and growth.

The development comes after Tata stepped down from the boards of several other Tata Group companies, including Trent, Voltas, Tata Steel, Tata Investment Corporation and Tata International, in line with the group’s governance guidelines.

Tata will continue to serve as Chairman of Tata Trusts, which is the largest shareholder of Tata Sons.

The Companies Act, 2013, also stipulates that a person cannot be appointed or continue as a Managing Director or Whole-Time Director after attaining the age of 70, subject to the provisions laid down under the Act.

The retirement from Titan’s board marks another leadership transition across the Tata Group’s operating companies as Noel Tata approaches his 70th birthday.
