Celebrating B. Thiagarajan: A journey of leadership, innovation and excellence

As B. Thiagarajan celebrates his 69th year on September 20, his journey stands as a testament to experience, strategic vision and sustained leadership. The Managing Director of Blue Star Limited has spent more than four decades navigating India's engineering and consumer durables landscape, playing an important role in the evolution of one of the country's prominent air-conditioning and refrigeration companies.

An electrical and electronics engineering graduate from Madurai University, Thiagarajan began his professional journey with organisations including Larsen & Toubro, BPL Systems and Voltas. He joined Blue Star in 1998, beginning an association that would see him rise through several leadership positions.

His career at Blue Star has spanned service businesses, marketing, corporate communications, planning and operations. He was appointed President of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Products Group in 2009, joined the company's Board in 2013 and became Joint Managing Director in 2016. In April 2019, he assumed charge as Managing Director.

Under his leadership, Blue Star has continued to strengthen its focus on manufacturing, research and development, energy-efficient technologies and market expansion.

In January 2026, Blue Star announced his reappointment as Managing Director for a further term beginning April 1, 2026, reflecting continuity in the company's leadership as it pursues its strategic growth initiatives.

Beyond Blue Star, Thiagarajan has been actively involved in shaping industry conversations. A former President of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Manufacturers Association, he has also held several leadership positions within the Confederation of Indian Industry, contributing to discussions on sustainability, cold-chain infrastructure, rural development and industrial growth.

His professional journey reflects a combination of engineering expertise, commercial understanding and a commitment to building long-term institutional capabilities.
