Kairali channel served marching order to a sizeable section of its staff, who had been serving the channel since its inception. Among those asked to leave are the key people in the organization including the executive director, director (programming), director (production), chief news editor, news editor, etc.
The retrenchment and redeployment were part of the attempts to streamline the channel’s functioning and run it more efficiently to turn the corner.
Malayalam Communication Limited, which owns Kairali channel is reported to have incurred losses to the tune of Rs 7 crores during the first year of operations. But according to the company sources the channel was set to make profit from the third year onwards.
The decision to terminate 30 people was taken by the board of directors of the company headed by Malayalam super star Mammooty.
