Young changemaker Radhika Ojha recognised for empowering differently-abled athletes

Radhika Ojha, a dynamic young student at Shiv Nadar School, Noida, who aspires to become a changemaker has been honoured with the prestigious National Sports Excellence Community Trailblazer Award 2025. This distinguished recognition celebrates individuals who have pioneered inclusive initiatives that transform communities, and Radhika’s groundbreaking work in promoting adaptive sports for differently-abled athletes stands out as a beacon of hope and change.

The Community Trailblazer Award specifically recognises visionaries who push beyond conventional boundaries to foster equity, access, and empowerment in sports. Radhika’s commitment to making sports truly inclusive reflects a powerful message—that youth-led, grassroots efforts can ignite nationwide transformation. “This award is for those who are often overlooked—differently-abled athletes who deserve the same platform and encouragement as any other sportsperson,” highlighted Radhika. “I’m truly grateful to the STAIRS Foundation and the committee for acknowledging my efforts over the past few years.”

Radhika’s journey embodies the essence of purpose-driven leadership. Balancing the rigours of her International Baccalaureate studies with impactful community service, she has led multiple initiatives focused on sustainable development and social equity. Among these, Project Raahat stands as a crucial example. Rooted in providing sustainable and humane architectural solutions to underprivileged communities, Project Raahat aligns with Radhika’s inclusive vision by emphasizing accessibility and dignity for all, including the differently-abled. By addressing fundamental infrastructural barriers, the project lays the groundwork for a society where individuals can thrive without physical or social limitations—a principle that seamlessly extends to her work in adaptive sports.

Over the past 3–4 years, Radhika has relentlessly championed the cause of differently-abled athletes, advocating for greater participation, access to resources, and emotional support. Her work challenges the prevailing misconception that physical disability equates to inability. “Our society needs to stop treating sports for the differently-abled as something unusual. It should be common—just like any other sport,” she passionately advocates. Her vision is clear: adaptive sports should become mainstream, backed by robust institutional support and public recognition. Drawing inspiration from the Olympics’ ethos of fairness and equal opportunity, Radhika envisions an India where differently-abled youth can pursue their athletic dreams with pride and confidence.

Looking forward, Radhika is determined to build a resilient, inclusive ecosystem for differently-abled athletes nationwide within the next five years. Her dream includes national and local policies that enshrine inclusivity, sports federations that prioritise adaptive programs, and a society that celebrates athletic talent irrespective of ability. Beyond sports, Radhika’s passion extends to astronomy and scientific exploration, showcasing a multi-dimensional spirit dedicated to both innovation and social change.
