Subramaniam Swaminathan, Founder and CEO of IRIS Business Services, and a former journalist, passed away due to a heart attack. 

His demise leaves a void in India's entrepreneurial and media landscape. 

Swaminathan, a Yale-educated economist, was known for his sharp business acumen and his ability to foresee trends in compliance technology, making IRIS Business Services a leader in XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) solutions across the globe.

Swaminathan began his professional journey as a Consultant with the World Bank in 1986 before transitioning to journalism. He served as a Features Writer for The Economic Times (1989–1992) and later as Assistant Editor at Business India (1991–1994), showcasing a keen understanding of India's evolving business landscape. His years in journalism honed his analytical skills, which he would later leverage to build a robust business empire.

In 2004, Swaminathan founded IRIS Business Services Limited, a compliance technology solutions provider that has grown to serve over 6,000 firms across 54+ countries. Under his visionary leadership, IRIS became a listed company on both NSE and BSE, establishing itself as India’s foremost XBRL company. Before IRIS, he had already made a mark as Founder and CEO of Investment Research and Information Services Limited, which he led for 10 years.

Swaminathan was passionate about building an Indian multinational, a vision that he relentlessly pursued. His LinkedIn profile reflects his call for talent, urging outstanding individuals in sales to join him in expanding IRIS' global footprint. His drive to deepen India's presence in international markets was reflected in his work, making him an inspiration for many aspiring entrepreneurs.

Swaminathan’s academic credentials included a Master’s in Economics from Yale University (1984–1987) and time spent at Stony Brook University (1983–1984). His role as a Fellow at Silliman College and his participation in the Committee to reform undergraduate education at Yale highlighted his commitment to fostering intellectual growth and innovation.

His ability to merge the worlds of journalism and entrepreneurship, coupled with his focus on compliance technology, created a path that many continue to follow.
