The Hindu newspaper on August 18 carried a note from the Editor on the front page, appealing to its readers to join hands in the task of raising funds for the victims of the Kerala floods.

The ad ‘We urge you to read this before anything else’, appealed each of the readers to come forward and contribute in any measure possible. With this, The Hindu has once again reiterated to be a publication that is committed to social good with the ad further stating, “No headline is more important. No story is as critical. Today the people of Kerala come first.”

Ads and editorials have and are being published, requesting both material and fund donations to The Hindu Relief Fund. All contributions will be made to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). A list of carefully curated non-perishable items was published with The Hindu's partner EFI to guide donors. To appreciate the efforts made by the readers, The Hindu’s website will acknowledge those that make a contribution of Rs 2,500 and above.

The response to the ads and editorials has been overwhelming, and donations are continuing to pour in, with several readers coming to The Hindu offices in person with cheques. The publication stated that it grateful to be able to help the people of Kerala and thanked the readers’ generosity during this difficult time.
