On the occasion of Hindi Journalism Day, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma extended his greetings to journalists across the country, stating that “free, fair, and fearless journalism is the cornerstone of a strong nation.” He praised the media’s unwavering commitment to democracy, society, and the nation.
Reflecting on the historic significance of the day, Sharma recalled that the first Hindi newspaper Udant Martand was published on May 30, 1826, under the editorship of Pandit Yugal Kishore Shukla, who laid the foundation for Hindi journalism in India.
“As we celebrate Hindi Journalism Day today, we are reminded of the historic moment when Udant Martand was launched. Hindi journalism now enters its 200th year, a remarkable milestone that not only commemorates the past but also highlights how language, ideas, and journalism together have shaped public consciousness and democratic dialogue,” Sharma said.
He emphasized that journalism is not merely a tool for disseminating information but a powerful force that safeguards democracy. He acknowledged the significant role played by Hindi journalists in upholding this responsibility with integrity.
“Hindi journalists have always fulfilled their duty with sincerity. Their work has been instrumental in empowering citizens and nurturing democratic values,” he added, reaffirming the enduring relevance and strength of Hindi journalism in India’s democratic journey.
