The 3rd edition of Dainik Bhaskar India Pride Awards, in association with DNA, was held in Delhi recently. India Pride Awards is a unique initiative of Dainik Bhaskar Group that seeks to recognise and felicitate excellence in the Public Sector Undertaking sector.

The 3rd edition of Dainik Bhaskar India Pride Awards, in association with DNA, was held in Delhi recently. India Pride Awards is a unique initiative of Dainik Bhaskar Group that seeks to recognise and felicitate excellence in the Public Sector Undertaking sector.

This high powered function commenced with the performance of two time Grammy award winner Robin Hogarth and Indian classical vocalist Padamshree Sumitra Guha. It was a fusion of traditional African and Indian classical music. Adding glitter to the function was the famous sufi singer Kailash Kher, who enthralled the audience with his famous numbers.

In his opening address, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal, Chairman, Dainik Bhaskar Group said that India lived in rural areas and the PSUs had extended their reach in such rural areas and villages. The economy of the country lay in the hands of the PSUs be it the Central or the State PSUs.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, who was Chief Guest of the evening, handed over the awards for excellence in PSUs. He was accompanied by Ramesh Chandra Agarwal, Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group and Girish Agarwal, Director, Dainik Bhaskar Group. In his address Shri Ahluwalia said, “Such acknowledgement of the work done for the economic development of the nation, by the special vehicles called the PSUs is note-worthy.” He further added that Dainik Bhaskar’s recognition of the outstanding work done by the members of the civil society towards the welfare of the nation and a better change for the society at large was a big step.

The Life Time Achievement Award was conferred on MD Mallya, Chairman & Managing Director, Bank of Baroda. Speaking on behalf of all the PSUs, Mallya remarked, “Be it be the Central or the State PSUs, they are giving their important contribution in the economic development of the nation. This includes development of the rural as well as the corporate sector. Dainik Bhaskar has identified the contributions of the PSUs and appreciated the same on a huge platform. India Pride Awards also instils a sense of healthy competition amongst PSUs.”

Prof VN Rajasekhran Pillai was awarded a Special Recognition Award for showing excellence in education sector.

Speaking to the media, Jaideep Dhagat, Senior General Manager and Business Head, Dainik Bhaskar Group, said, “This year we received 111 entries, which is 35 per cent more than in 2010. This year, India Pride Awards has expanded its scope by adding two new categories: Social Change Agent, an award to an individual or an organisation that has done distinguished work for the welfare of the society, and Impact Creators - an award specific to Civil Servants, who have shown exemplary initiative. Within Central PSUs, the awards were distributed in 14 categories. Two PSUs were conferred with the special jury award for contribution to the society. Within Social Change Agent category, there were five awards that were given and an equal number of awards were given in the Impact Creator-Civil Servant category.”
