Living up to expectations: Goafest 2013

What am I unexpecting? Well, the Bible says don’t boast about tomorrow because you don’t know what the day may bring forth. But here’s a list of things that I don’t expect to see at Goafest this year.

I don’t expect to lose people. Not returning home is the saddest thing. Some years back, it was very sad to lose Mahesh, our colleague at Ogilvy Mumbai, on his way back from Goafest. It would have been good to see him develop into a stellar creative leader. It would have been so good to see where he would have been today, what campaigns he would have come up with, and needless to say, his family and friends would have been happier.

I don’t expect to see people falling off the hot air balloon that takes off from the beach. Last year saw a serious accident.

I don’t expect to see rain dance. I wish the festival were about celebration of work. The rain dances and the songs blaring out on the beach is not the most creative thing you could do in an advertising festival. I know, a lot of youngsters, reading this might say, ‘Oh what a bore he is’, but as Indian creative fraternity, we meet only once a year. We could do better than disco dandiya.

I don’t expect cool climate, but how I really wish it gets cloudy. Don’t want to sweat it out on the beach.

Titus Upputuru is National Creative Director at Dentsu Marcom.
