The launch of his very own OTT app, VBontheWeb on January 27 was met with positive response as it secured 25,000 downloads and 600 -700 transactions every day, according to director Vikram Bhatt. As a result he is optimistic of breaking even soon. “We should break even by year end and a half. We are planning to make 10-11 shows this year,” shares the director whose every episode is in the range of Rs 20 and Rs 30 lakh (for film-like-quality).

VBontheWeb claims to be India's first OTT platform where viewers pay per show, for fees as nominal as Rs 18. The app has started with three shows. It will start marketing the shows following its roll-out on Smart TV and desktop. The app launched with an original series ‘Untouchables,’ a court room drama directed by Bhatt's daughter Krishna. The shows available on the app include ‘Maya’, ‘Twisted’, ‘Rain’, ‘Tantra’ and ‘Hadh’, these shows can be viewed free of cost. "Twisted will come out in April. Around March we will start marketing it,” Bhatt said. VBontheweb is currently available for download on Android and iOS platforms.

This platform will also be open to external producers to put up their content on a revenue sharing basis of 75-25 per cent. “We will give them 75 per cent and take 25 per cent as we want to promote ‘theatre on the web’," he added.

Even in international markets like the US, Pakistan and Bangladesh, the app has got a good reception. “South East Asia market is good for us.”
Bhatt has already had the audience sample his content with his web series produced under his company called Loneranger Productions. Started in 2016, it specialises in digital content which was put on YouTube.

VBontheWeb app has collaborated with many payment gateway platforms including Airpay who is working on a system of tying up with general stores all across the country. Via GPS, it will help you locate the stores and you can buy vouchers. "But it’s still in the works," confessed Bhatt.

Also with such a unique payment module, Bhatt ensures that no show will be charged more than Rs 24-25. “Good content brings in good viewership. Having said that, nothing is going to be more than 24-25 bucks,” he concluded.
