Parliamentary panel to discuss social media regulation on August 3

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology is set to examine the regulation of social and digital platforms at a meeting on August 3.
As per reports, officials from MeitY and the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as representatives from Google, Meta, X and Snapchat, will brief the panel on content moderation.
The meeting follows Meta’s brief removal of a Facebook video posted by PM Narendra Modi. Posted on July 23 amid CJP-led protests over alleged NEET 2026 irregularities, the video outlined the government’s plans for stricter measures against exam paper leaks.
It was later restored, with Meta citing a technical error. A Meta spokesperson stated, “The content was removed in error and has since been restored.” The government later sought an explanation from Meta.
