In a sudden turn of events, Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head, Amazon Video India, has resigned from his office.

“Amazon confirms that Kripalani, who is leading Amazon Prime Video in India, has decided to move on from Amazon due to personal reasons.  Nitesh helped build the team and deliver a great experience to our customers.  We wish Nitesh the best for his future endeavours,” confirmed an Amazon India spokesperson.

Kripalani joined Amazon Video India as Country Head in December 2014. Under his leadership, Amazon India launched its streaming service Prime Video in December 2016 and since then it has invested heavily in tie-ups with content makers and top production houses in India such as Yash Raj Films and Excel Entertainment among others. As a result, the SVOD OTT player has witnessed a significant growth in subscriber figures. The global streaming service launched its first local original series ‘Inside Edge’ and also signed an exclusive deal with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan giving them the worldwide streaming rights to all his future titles, starting with Tubelight.

Prior to joining Amazon, Kripalani was with Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) for 1.4 years as Executive Vice-President: New Media, Business Development and Digital/Syndication. There again he was instrumental in launching its video-on-demand platform Sony LIV and the digital distribution business.

He is also an investor in on-demand home services company Timesaverz Dotcom since October 2011.
