Renowned editors from the India Today Group converged on the digital platform to give real time perspective on the Ayodhya verdict on September 30, 2010. According to the India Today Group, the move saw a surge in traffic and clocked the highest ever visitors and page views.

India Today Group editors converge online to give real time perspective on Ayodhya verdict

On September 30, 2010 as the Allahabad High Court announced its verdict in the Ayodhya title suit case, a tense India looked for answers on this historic judgement. In order to provide a 360 degree perspective on this verdict, eight of India Today Group’s key editors came together in a first of its kind initiative by any media group. Combining the strengths of their coverage across newspapers, magazines and television, the editors got together to provide a comprehensive overview of the verdict in real time.

“Within hours of the judgement, the coverage on the India Today Group websites (both English and Hindi) became clearly distinguishable from the other news websites,” said Kalli Purie, Chief Operating Officer, India Today Group Digital. “While most websites carried only news updates, the India Today Group editors provided an all-round perspective on the historic judgment and its implications, ahead of competition,” she added.

As soon as the verdict came out, the top editors converged on the Group’s websites and shared their views with the surfers. The list of the famed and renowned editors from the industry included Aroon Purie, Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group; MJ Akbar, Editorial Director, India Today; Prabhu Chawla, Editor - Languages, India Today; QW Naqvi, News Director, TV Today; Bharat Bhushan, Editor, Mail Today; Rahul Kanwal, Executive Editor, Headlines Today; Ajay Kumar, Executive Producer, Aaj Tak; and Shailedra Jha, Output Head, Aaj Tak.

It was a historic day for India and also for the India Today Group as the websites registered their highest-ever increase in page views and audience, due to this first of its kind coverage, which showcased the strengths of the combined editorial set-up of the Group that gave readers a comprehensive view on the issue.
