Google has announced the integration of its Gemini artificial intelligence model into the Chrome browser, a move that comes just weeks after the company avoided a potential breakup in a high-profile antitrust case. Starting Thursday, Chrome users in the U.S. on Mac and Windows will gain access to Gemini’s capabilities, with availability on mobile devices and Workspace accounts to follow in the coming weeks.

Gemini will offer users tools to summarize content across multiple tabs, retrieve recently closed sites, answer complex queries directly from the address bar, and even detect scams. It will also enable quick password updates on platforms like Spotify and Coursera. Deeper integration with Google’s suite of applications—including YouTube, Maps and Calendar—will further expand its utility. In the months ahead, the company plans to introduce “agentic” features that can handle multi-step tasks such as scheduling appointments, ordering groceries, or booking services.

The rollout highlights Google’s strategy to embed Gemini across its portfolio while pitching the technology to enterprise clients. The development follows Judge Amit Mehta’s ruling earlier this month, which allowed Google to retain control of Chrome and Android, while mandating that the company share certain data with rivals to foster competition in search.

Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Platforms and Devices at Google, said Chrome was a natural hub for Gemini: “We are evolving the browser to help you get the most from the web while keeping the speed, simplicity and safety of Chrome.”

As competition intensifies from players like OpenAI and Perplexity, Google’s push underscores its ambition to make Gemini central to the everyday online experience.
