According to the year-end data shared by App Annie, one of the leading providers of app-related data, global downloads across iOS and Google Play surpassed 113 billion in 2018, a 10% increase on 2017.
The app intelligence firm came to these figures by analyzing data across both Apple’s iOS App Store and Google Play. It doesn’t include the third-party Chinese app stores, which would make the figures even higher.
As per the latest data, the top apps by global downloads in iOS App Store and Google Play are: Facebook Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, Tik Tok, Instagram, UC Browser, SHAREit, Snapchat, Netflix and Vigo Video.
It must be mentioned that in 2018, the mobile gaming market matured with hits like Fortnite, PUBG and Roblox taking advantage of more capable specs on smartphones, as well as the trend toward cross-platform gaming. App Annie analysts predict more of the same in 2019.
According to the report, the top apps by worldwide consumer spend in iOS App Store and Google Play included: Netflix, Tinder, Tencent Video, iQIYI, Pandora Music, Kwai, YouTube, Youku, LINE and HBO Now. The report also released the ranking of the top games by worldwide consumer spend in iOS App Store and Google Play. The list includes games such as Fate/Grand Order, Honour of Kings, Monster Strike, Candy Crush Saga, Lineage M, Fantasy Westward Journey, Pokemon Go, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.
App Annie forecasts consumer spends on apps to reach $156.5 billion in 2022 as a result of a rapidly growing install base and increasing spend per device in more mature markets.
