Sir Martin Sorrell marked his 81st birthday on 14 February 2026 with a distinguished celebration in Delhi. The event brought together leaders from media, brands, start-ups, and advertising agencies, reflecting his longstanding influence across the industry. Dr. Annurag Batra, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief of the BW Businessworld Group and the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of the e4m Group also attended the celebration.
Sorrell, the advertising veteran behind WPP and the founder of S4 Capital, has played a defining role in shaping modern advertising. In 2018, he launched S4 Capital as a digital-focused alternative to traditional holding companies.
His career began in 1975 at Saatchi & Saatchi, where he earned the nickname ‘the third brother’ for his role in driving the agency’s acquisition-led growth. In 1985, he invested in a small wire basket manufacturer, Wire and Plastic Products, which later became WPP. Under his leadership, the company pursued an ambitious expansion strategy, establishing Sorrell as a global figure in advertising.
Even after leaving WPP in 2018, he remains an influential voice on the industry’s future. Outside of business, Sorrell is known for his love of cricket, Indian cuisine, and art, interests that reflect his broader passions beyond advertising.
