In a move that is sure to create some waves in the home video business, Big Flicks — the home video business from Reliance Entertainment — is in the process of setting up three components under the banner of BigFlicks.com. The home video division will be segregated into rental, broadband delivery that is aimed at the international market, and sell-through.
Informed executives reveal that the company, in a move that may create a dent among the rampant unorganised and illegal sector in the industry, is working on a plan to keep the pricing between Rs 11 and Rs 501 for both DVDs and VCDs.
It is also believed that Reliance Entertainment will pump in around $100 million into Big Flicks over the next few years with a substantial marketing budget attached to it.
Sources indicate that the company intends to grow the market by 10-fold and recover its investments through the expected high volume sales.
