There is excitement in the Bengali television scenario with quite a few new channels slated to go on air before the Puja season. Star is coming up with a Bengali GEC, while Triveni Media is launching its 24-hour Bengali news channel Voice of India Bangla.
The latest to join the fray is R Plus, a GEC promoted by Durgapur-based businessman RN Majumdar, who has interests in education and engineering products. R Plus is going on air on August 11, 2008 from 7.30 pm with its mega serial ‘Mahajuddha’. The channel would be available throughout West Bengal.
Besides ‘Mahajuddha’, R Plus’ programming mix includes a show titled ‘Anupama’, a game show especially for housewives, a comedy show hosted by Kharaj Mukherjee, another mega serial ‘Jaal’, which has been directed by Biresh Chatterjee, a daily show featuring short stories, and travel show ‘Travel R’. There would be a news and current affairs capsule daily from 11 am to 12 noon. As of now, the channel is not planning any reality show.
R Plus is targeted at viewers in the 15-34 age group. The channel is headed by CEO Amit Jajodia, while Soumitra Roy heads Sales and Marketing. Roy was earlier with Akaash Bangla, Kolkata.
The creative communication for the channel is being handled by Inner Circle, a Kolkata-based agency. The initial communication involved a series of teaser ads on hoardings. This would be followed by the main campaign launching on August 11.
