After over 30 years, Bajaj Auto goes missing from India Today’s back cover

A sales deal ending usually doesn’t make much of a difference, but when a 30-year old relation ceases, it gets the industry talking. That is what the latest issue of India Today has managed – the back page of the India Today English magazine, that housed Bajaj Auto for the last three decades, saw a new advertiser in Raymond in the latest issue. It is understood that the ties were severed over ‘commercial issues’ disagreement, and that the back page would now see another major automobile player soon.

After over 30 years, Bajaj Auto goes missing from India Today’s back cover

A sales deal ending doesn’t usually make much of a difference, but when over a 30-year old relationship ceases between two key players in their respective domains, it certainly gets the industry talking. That is what the latest issue of India Today has managed – the back cover of the India Today English magazine that had housed Bajaj Auto for over three decades, saw a new advertiser in Raymond in its latest issue.

Bajaj Auto officials didn’t respond to exchange4media’s queries regarding what led to this decision, but industry sources indicated that the 30-year old marriage broke up over commercial reasons.

Sources familiar with the situation also informed that the page would soon feature another major automobile player and that the Raymond ad was only a break from Bajaj to the next.

The frenetic activity around this position in print advertising has led to a lot of speculation. India Today, when reached, was tightlipped about the new final long-term buyer of the position. All that the officials said was “wait and watch till the next issue is out”.
