Aircel appoints McCann Worldgroup as its creative AoR
According to sources, McCann Worldgroup has bagged the creative duties of telecom major Aircel following a multi-agency pitch. The other agencies in the fray for the business included incumbent agency Dentsu Communications, BBH, BBDO and DDB Mudra.
According to sources, McCann Worldgroup has bagged the creative duties of telecom major Aircel following a multi-agency pitch that also included incumbent agency Dentsu Communications, BBH, BBDO and DDB Mudra.
No official confirmation was forthcoming at the time of filing this report, however, sources close to the development have confirmed that McCann Worldgroup has won the business.
Aircel’s media duties are divided between Dentsu Media and Starcom Worldwide.
Prior to Dentsu, in 2007 Aircel’s creative duties were being handled by Leo Burnett and RK Swamy BBDO. The advertising budget at that time was Rs 50 crore. In the last four years, as Aircel expanded to more circles, the advertising spends grew to touch Rs 200 crore.
Aircel, which was originally operational in South India, expanded its network to the rest of the country in 2009, and has been focusing on value added services and mobile Internet as key drivers for growth.
The company, whose competitors include Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea, was recently in the news for announcing that it will be selling the iPhone4 in India (along with Airtel). Aircel also recently launched its 3G services in Punjab and has announced that it will invest Rs 200 crore in the region by 2012 to strengthen the existing 2G network as well.For more updates, be socially connected with us on
