A Guess advertisement in Vogue's August edition sparked controversy as it featured a blonde woman dressed in a fantastical editorial look that doesn't exist as it is an AI-generated model. The advertisement's small print says, "Produced by Seraphinne Vallora on AI." A tremendous outcry was sparked by the silent disclaimer.

When @lala4an, a TikTok user, pointed out the digital scam, the advertisement gained popularity. "Beauty standards are already insane right now,” one user said, "poor girls are going to start comparing themselves to not even humans." Isabel Brown, a YouTuber, went on to say, "No actual human being has body proportions naturally like this… there already was major societal backlash to magazines trying to make women look completely unattainable.”

Vogue has remained silent. Even though Guess hasn't uploaded the advertisement, folks have nonetheless been criticizing their other posts.

In response, the campaign's AI studio, Seraphinne Vallora, defended its strategy on Instagram, asking, "Why can’t engineers, graphic designers, 3D artists, coders… build beauty too?” Andreea Petrescu, a co-founder, maintains that the images are meticulously created and guided by humans rather than merely AI commands.

The studio admits that its most popular photographs are those that conform to limited notions of beauty, despite claims of artistry and job development. Co-founder Valentina Gonzalez stated, "If they loved the diversity, we would have flooded our Instagram with diversity."

Here we are. Companies are pursuing their dreams. It is anticipated that consumers will accept it. Additionally, the discussion about real representation, real employment, and real bodies just became much more messy.
