Overall, women’s magazines are struggling to retain their readership base. Among languages, regional women’s magazines are losing a higher share of the readership – going from an AIR of 81.83 lakh readers in 2009 R1 to 72.49 lakh in 2010 Q2 to 70.53 Iakh in 2011 Q2 – a decline of 14 per cent over the two-year period.
No big surprises are seen in the ranking of the top line magazines as per the Indian Readership Survey Q1 2011 data release by Hansa Research and Media Research Users’ Council (MRUC) on June 17. However, the decline trend in readership continues in this quarter as well.
Malayalam fortnightly ‘Vanitha’ is sprucing up its content for a special Christmas issue in the month of December. The issue of ‘Vanitha’ in the second half of the month will feature some special articles and exclusive write-ups to attract women readers during the festive season.
