The start of this week saw the world waking up to the news that Sir Martin Sorrell has quit as CEO of WPP, the world's largest advertising agency that he founded 30 years ago. Roberto Quarta, chairman of WPP, took over as the executive chairman until the appointment of a new CEO.
Mark Read, CEO, Wunderman and WPP Digital, and Andrew Scott, WPP corporate development director and COO, Europe, have been appointed as joint chief operating officers of WPP.
We put the Spotlight on Cannes, which might see weak participation from India this year. After setting a record at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity with a 40 metal haul, participation could be rather lukewarm from India this year, say some heads of creative agencies. Slow growth in 2017 and fewer categories at Cannes are the main factors that are influencing how Indian agencies take part in the international awards festival.

TRAI reiterated its recommendations to the MIB that under the new licensing regime for DTH, licenses should be issued for a period of 20 years and be renewed by 10 years at a time. The Authority also recommended that a one-time entry fee of Rs 10 crore should be charged in the new DTH licensing regime.
In response to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s proposal to ask DTH operators to install a chip in new set-top-boxes that will collect data about channels watched and the duration, TRAI has said that the ministry may send a reference to it as per the provision of TRAI Act 1997.
Publicis Media has announced a unified leadership structure across Publicis Media EMEA and APAC with Gerry Boyle appointed to the role of CEO, Publicis Media EMEA and APAC. This role expands on Boyle’s current remit as CEO of Publicis Media APAC and he will continue to report to Steve King, CEO, Publicis Media.
