Varun Kohli moves on from Times Network

The Times Group has announced a leadership transition in its news broadcasting business with the exit of Varun Kohli, Chief Operating Officer, effective August 13, 2025. Rohit Gopakumar, CEO - Entertainment and Digital Business, The Times Group, will take additional interim charge of the news broadcasting vertical.

During his 1.3 years tenure, Varun Kohli oversaw critical operations at Times Network, bringing with him over three decades of experience in strategy, leadership, people management, sales and marketing. Known as a “hands-on guy” with strong expertise in P&L and operations, Kohli is credited with launching and turning multiple brands into profitable ventures, while strengthening organizational structures and team alignment.

Before joining Times Network, he held leadership roles across prominent media and entertainment companies. His career journey spans positions such as CEO at Bharat Express, CEO at ITV Network, CEO at Deccan Chronicle Holdings, Chief Monetisation Officer at Mogae Media, Group CEO at ITV Network India News & NewsX, Executive Vice President at DNA Newspapers, Associate Publisher at Mail Today, Senior VP at TV18 Broadcast, and Associate Vice President at Jagran Prakashan. He also had stints in advertising with Bennett Coleman & Company and Jagran Publications.

Kohli has been associated with high-profile launches and turnarounds across print, television and digital, driving revenue growth, audience engagement and brand building. Colleagues describe him as a trusted, credible and committed professional who thrives on accountability and full ownership of business outcomes.

With Kohli’s exit, all functions in the TV news broadcasting business, except Finance, Legal and Distribution, will now report directly to Rohit Gopakumar. The Finance and Legal functions will continue under Jagdish Mulchandani, who will also report to Gopakumar for distribution across news and entertainment businesses.
