NDTV Profit has appointed Rajesh Sundaram as Senior Editor, Assignment, bringing into its newsroom a leader who has spent over three decades building, shaping, and running news operations across India and international markets.
At NDTV Profit, he will lead the assignment desk, strengthening the network’s newsgathering capabilities, editorial coordination, and real-time response across markets and breaking developments - areas that are central to delivering speed with clarity in business journalism.
Rajesh brings more than 32 years of experience across editorial, managerial, and consultative roles, with a career defined by significant body of work. He has been part of the core teams that have launched and scaled multiple news organisations - designing everything from editorial structures and workflows to integrated digital platforms.
He began his career with Businessworld in 1994, before moving to Zee News where he served as Bureau Chief across Mumbai and Chennai. In 2002, he joined NDTV as part of its political bureau, contributing to coverage during a critical phase of India’s political evolution. He later went on to work with Al Jazeera International as India Correspondent, reporting on key geopolitical developments and expanding his global newsroom experience.
Over the years, Rajesh has played a pivotal role in building some of the country’s prominent news platforms. At NewsX, he was part of the leadership team that launched its news operations. At Headlines Today (India Today Group), he served as Editor, followed by a leadership role at News Nation where he helped launch the Hindi news channel and its digital ecosystem.
His international experience includes leading the launch of ANN7 in South Africa as Editor-in-Chief, overseeing both television and digital platforms. Back in India, he led the launch of Tamil news channels News7 Tamil and Cauvery News, and later served as Principal Consultant for the launch of Marathi news channel Lokshahi.
In recent years, Rajesh has worked closely with leading media institutions in consulting roles, including Business Today and The Himalayan Times, before joining the Press Trust of India, where he helped build and lead its video service and content studio - expanding the agency’s multimedia capabilities.
On the appointment, Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV, said, ‘The assignment desk is where a newsroom’s intent becomes action. It determines what we chase, how we prioritise, and how quickly we respond. Rajesh brings a rare combination of field experience and leadership in building news operations at scale. His understanding of systems, speed, and editorial judgment will add significant strength to NDTV Profit’s newsroom.’
"A strong assignment desk is the heartbeat of any newsroom. In a fast-moving market environment, clarity of judgment and speed of response become critical. NDTV Profit has built a credible voice in business journalism, and I look forward to strengthening the processes and teams that power that voice", said Rajesh on his appointment.
Over the course of his career, Rajesh has reported from across India and globally, covering elections, civil conflicts, and major geopolitical developments, including the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the 2008 US presidential election.
His appointment comes at a time when NDTV Profit is sharpening its focus on real-time market intelligence and multi-platform delivery, strengthening its role as a trusted destination for business and financial news.
