Law & Kenneth beefs up senior mngmt team

In a move to strengthen its senior management team, Law & Kenneth has announced three senior level appointments. Rana Barua joins the company as COO, Amardeep Singh as Chief Creative Officer (North & East) and Samir Datar as Sr VP Strategic Planning.

The company is moving into its second phase of growth, explained Anil Nair, CEO and Managing Partner, Law & Kenneth.

“We have had tremendous growth in the last couple of years and are looking forward to the next phase. We want to be the agency of choice for the biggest brands in the country. We are now ready to play the big game, challenge the biggest agencies and take them on at their own game,” said Nair.

Barua, Singh and Datar will work very closely with Nair.

Barua’s last assignment was with Red FM as COO. Prior to that, he was Head of Marketing and Programming at Radio City for four years. With 17 years experience, he worked on global and local brands in agencies such as Ogilvy, McCann and Y&R. Barua is a believer of ideas and how powerful they can be for effective communication which makes or breaks brands, and that is the one of the key reasons for returning to advertising.

On joining Law & Kenneth, he said, “I was clear that my stint with radio was getting limited with expansion plans miles away. My understanding and exposure to the ever-evolving media space over the last six years made me realise that my expertise would come in best with the changing Indian advertising and communication solutions environment. Undoubtedly, Law and Kenneth is the one of the fastest growing agencies that is a true believer of building brands in the country and my mandate is to be a catalyst and a partner in this growth.”

Datar’s career spans 20 years having worked on diverse product categories that range from tractors to telecom infrastructure. He has had stints at JWT, Cheil and LG Ad. He has also worked on the other side of the table with Bilcare Research and Acme Tele Power. He has built and managed successful brands such as Maggi, Samsung, Hyundai and Nature Fresh. His last assignment was with LG Ad.

On this move, he said, “I believe that Law & Kenneth is the most exciting and challenging place to be right now. It’s a strategy-driven agency and I hope to add value and enhance the strategic capabilities of the agency. I look forward to contributing my bit to the excitement.”

Singh has about 22 years of experience. He has handled an array of brands such as Jet Airways, Domino’s, Coke, Yamaha, Hindustan Motors, Suzuki, Seagram’s, Bacardi, Nestle, JK Tyres, Apollo Tyres, Grasim, NIIT, ABN Amro Bank, Oberoi Hotels, The Lalit, among others. He has worked with agencies such as Mudra, Trikaya Grey, McCann Erickson, Contract, Dentsu Communications, M&C Saatchi and Law & Kenneth. He co-founded Hammer Communications in 2010; he resigned from there in April 2012. This is his second stint with Law & Kenneth.

On taking up this assignment, he said, “It feels great to be back. In my new role, I’m looking forward to creating sound communication solutions that make brands visible. I am also keen to work towards creating an inspiring work environment at the agency’s Delhi and Kolkata offices. Also, one of my key agendas is to raise the creative bar further up in both the zones assigned to me.”
