Zee digital platform will by far have the largest bouquet of content: Punit Goenka, ZEEL

At the unveiling of the new corporate brand ideology of ZEE Entertainment Enterprise Ltd (ZEEL) a discussion on digital media took the centrestage. Punit Goenka, MD and CEO, ZEEL, assured that their digital platform (scheduled for launch) will have distinctive content from other OTT platforms. “In terms of what’s available across the OTT platforms in the market, Zee’s platform will by far have the largest bouquet of content available on it. It will span Hindi and 11 other regional languages and will have the largest film library across multiple languages in the country. TV content will also be available on the platform.” 
ZEEL is aiming to consolidate all their video platforms under Z5, scheduled for launch in the next few weeks. Amit Goenka, CEO – International Broadcast Business, ZEEL, said, “With the vision of becoming the world’s leading global content company from the emerging markets, content is our core focus area and our primary objective is to create extraordinary content for all types of audience across different screens and platforms. Digital is a key focus area and we are soon to launch our revolutionary digital platform, Z5 in the next few weeks.”

Amit Goenka assured that its upcoming original content piece (for the digital platform) is for a global audience.

Talking about international market, ZEEL, which has a strong presence with 42 channels (outside India) in Middle East, Germany and Russia, among others, will create local content for that market using their stories, themes and cultural nuances as the market matures, according to the CEO of International Business. He said, “As of now the content is working.”

On the theatre front, ZEEL’s new vertical Zee Live, which has ZEE Theatre, under its umbrella is looking at being the curator of the best of Indian content to be taken to international market and bringing the finest international content to India to create an ‘overwhelming experience’ as shared by Anuj Talukder, President, Zee Live. Punit Goenka added, “There’s enough content available in the Indian market not just for the Indian diaspora living in international markets but for a global audience.” He is also considering creating local IPs. Zee Theatre has taken plays to 11 cities in the country, three in the UK and even Singapore.

Punit Goenka shared his ambition of reviving theatre in the next 25 years and taking national talent overseas. If this happens then it will be their biggest contribution, he confessed.

When it comes to market expansion he revealed that ZEEL will soon foray into different genres and in southern languages very soon. Punit Misra, (CEO) of  Domestic Broadcast Business, added that wherever there is sizeable business opportunity with viewers, Zee will enter the space and be successful.
